Examining the Audit Journal Using New Nav – User Profiles

New Nav provides a graphic way to view entries in the audit journal. Using the audit journal SQL table functions, audit journal entries can be viewed in New Nav. To access the entries, launch and sign in to New Nav, and then click on the padlock and choose Audit Journaling. You’ll be taken to a window where you can choose the audit journal entry type(s) that you wish to see. See Figure 5.5. In my example, I’m going to uncheck the default entries selected and choose User Profile Changes (CP). Then I’ll specify the date range of the audit journal entries I want to examine and click OK.

Because I left the view as the default of Chart View, the system now generates a chart of the number of CP entries over the time period I selected. See Figure 5.6.

Figure 5.6: The Chart View shows the number of audit journal entries over the date range specified.

From here, I can right-click on the chart and choose Detail View to get the view as shown in Figure 5.7. Just like other categories in New Nav, you can customize which columns you want displayed by clicking on the three vertical dots at the right of the display. In this example, I’ve customized my view to include the ALLOBJ and Previous ALLOBJ columns so I can see the profiles where *ALLOBJ special authority has been assigned to the profile.

Figure 5.7: User Profile (CP) audit journal entries are filtered to see entries where *ALLOBJ has been assigned to the profile.

You don’t have to go through the Chart View. When entering the Audit Journaling category, you can go directly to the Detail View by clicking on the Detail View radio button at the top of the Configure View window. If you’ve applied filters, they will be remembered and will be reapplied when you come back into the category. You can also “Favorite” this view by clicking on the star in the upper right of the display. Then access your Favorites by clicking on the building (Home) icon in the left navigation > Manage Favorites.
